You want to see a pro? :D

So it looks like not all MAX BB frames have the beefier chain stays. I have seen some with the solid chain stays, but I wonder if mine along with some others have had the FSR suspension downgraded. My frame has the reinforced head tube but doesn't have the heavy chain stays.

Finally finished playing around with my FSR, took it for a decent ride last Sunday. Forest where we go had 2 bridges damaged due to flooding and one washed away completely, was some feckin deep mud in sections!

Bike did well, and no-one fell off, good fun

Crap shots as ever.

@NotFatMatt: liking your build mate, 2 questions about it:
1: is that a home made front down-tube and rear linkage mudguard
2: what are the neoprene socks you have on the shock and headset cups? they home made?

Hi guys, first post so go easy ;)
Thought I'd show off my recent eBay win, '99 comp. seems all original and doesn't look like she's had much use. Still has the specialised tyres on.

Had to fit some new grips and new inner tube and just have a split jockey wheel to replace.

Bah cant place link in first post..doh !!!next post it is then :)

Yep, my pikey-ness will never stop, made them at work. The neoprene covers are indeed lizard skins, the headset one is made from the excess off the shock cover :)

@ApOsTle51 - nice one, looks just like mine did before i got infected by the retrobikevirus, still rolling on the original tyres too :p

is the sharkfin home made too, my headset covers were free from mbuk mag about 15 years ago, the rear shock boots are a must for these bikes given the location of the shock

any chance of a guide template for the ghetto guard

Got the bike out yesterday for a ride to find my rear shock broke, its sticking just as it starts to compress, not a problem once your on the bike and its sagged, but the rebound/lockout no longer works either!

This is the 165mm Xfusion Glyde i fitted.

I did a club ride 2 weeks back and our natural downhill rocky trail had me blasting down at 30mph at one point, no doubt i knackered it on this section, defo bottomed it out at least once jumper over a rock LOL

I have 2 replacements in my spares box, the Rockshox Deluxe with a 750lb spring from my 98 FSR, and the Stock 99 FSR elite rear shock with a 650lb spring (i belive these are fox?)

I prefer the slower rebound from the Rockshox shock to be honest, but the stiffer spring is annoying, i`m thinking the stock elite rear shock is knackered as its very boingy (tech term!) removing the spring and compressing the shock by hand, it has a few mm of easy travel before it starts to work, are they supposed to be like this?

Dubduck thats very nice. What length is that head tube?
Sorry for not responding earlier. It's a 130 mm head tube.
I've suddenly come to the conclusion that someone must have removed the decals that say Specialized and hve the MAX BB decal on them. Most FSR's have decals over most of the frame; mine only has the FSR DH decal still intact.
With the reinforced gusseting on the head tube I have, i'm sure my frame is a MAX BB.
Not sure why it's so important to think it's a max; but I'm sure worried about it! LOL
