just pondering the idea of changing both wheels to 24" on my Specialised Elite FSR (1999)...

i have the means to convert to disc on the rear, so this wouldn't be an issue....

what else may scupper this loosely thought up plan?

BB height would be dropped alot. So you're potentially going to have issues when you ride.

Can't see much else that's a problem besides that.

It'll lower the CG, which will reduce stability a bit.
However the biggest issue is pedal clearance. You'll hit the ground quite easily if you pedal through corners.
Unfortunately the lowered CG will mean you need to lean into corners a bit more to counteract the centrifugal force, making the ground clearance problem only worse.

I have a 1" difference in BB height between my modern (32.0cm) and my Sbikes (29.5cm). I do notice it every time.

Nah. Itll just make more drag. Unless you run soft tyres. Which will make even more drag anyway.

it was a bit of a knee jerk as a chap on here is selling a decent set of 24" wheels and hubs, so was tempted.
also started me thinking about weight - 24" wheels could be lighter..
and then i thought if i'm running discs, there wont be an issue of rim brake/caliper alignment.
i've seen the specialized big hits run a 24" rear wheel with 26" up front, but they have a longer rear travel system to compensate for this i guess.

no plans to actually convert, was just a thought :)

My buddy at the trails in Liverpool did exactly this to his FSR many years ago... was before the time that all these little 24" dirt jump hardtails were coming out, and we both had converted bmx cruisers into little hardtail jump and park bikes. He then went one better and built a full suss around an FSR.

It was, without doubt, the best bike to ride the trails... which included several Brooklyn Park Bikes, a Brooklyn Minilink, and a range of Cannondales and other stuff etc that were "built for the job"

Ground clearance was never an issue, and the handling was spot on!
