Hi.I know next to nothing about bike mechanics, have just aquired an old Peugeot Triathlon racer and would like to do my own work on it.
Details: 12 speed
Cogs(cassette) Maillard
Cranks Nervar
Hubs Maillard sealed mechanism
Pedal Maillard
rims Mavic 700 c
What tools do I need to remove cranks and crankcase, hubs etc.? I can see that a particular lockring removal tool is needed to remove the cogset (cassette). I removed the spindles from the pedals and the bearings are badly corroded and pitted. Can I buy replacement bearings for these ?
I would be grateful for any help

For the cranks you will need one of these:

Be sure to screw the thread all the way into the crank or it will strip out.

For the freewheel there's a variety of tools, mostly they are splined and you will need something like this:

Always good to replace any bearings in the headset, bottom bracket and wheels. You need to check the sizes but they are cheap so you could buy all the popular sizes:

Different freewheels and cassettes require specific removers.

After a bit of digging around, it seems the one you need is quite scarce (unless you were to go to France, where I imagine they are plentiful).

A Bicycle Research Tools' Normandy/Maillard CT-3 will do the job: they do have a UK distributor (Townsends of Cambridge), who I called but they referred me to their sister company who deal with the importer (Billy's of Cambridge) but I drew a blank with them also.

I can only suggest you try your LBS who might have one gathering dust somewhere, local clubs or put a wanted ad on here.

Depending on the age of your Pug, it may have French threads (I believe they adopted British threads over a few years in the eighties) and an obscure size of seat post.
