Come on then guys can anyone ever remember 'why' the cut out to the rear of a saddle is for ?

The Turbo was the first to have these cut-outs, i think anyway :?

I seem to remember in the middle 80's it was all the rage to get a saddle with the cut-out so your spare tub' could fit in neatly under your saddle.

Have i been dreaming about 'why' the cut-out is there or am i right or am i wrong ?

I used to have a Cinelli Unicanitor on one of my racing bikes and the folded up tub' would never stay in the same place
so whilst i was in my local bike shop the owner told me to get a 'new turbo saddle' as they have a cut-out for tubs.

Come on give us your views :!:

Never had a problem stuffing a tub under any of my 70's saddles.......held on with a quick release toe strap.

I thought the design was to make them less like saddles with saddlebag loops :)

These days I need 2 bottles for any reasonable length ride so it's under the saddle for me. I suppose I could use one of those huge bottles but I just can't bring myself to use one of those on a road bike .
