Getting desperate now - noone seems to be able to help? All that I've seen on the web is 1 1/4 to 1 1/8th?

cant you use 2 spacers, from 1 1/4 to 1 1/8th

then fom 1 1 /8th to 1"

?

Superb! I wanna see pics asap! Glad your 'warranty returned engineering parts (one compression unit, one flywheel)' arrived safe and sound from McCarthy Engineering here in the US, did you get away with the customs?
