it's happened to me a couple of times too.
one bike i went to pick up,i got there before someone else who wanted it.when he realised he wasn't going to get the bike he rung the seller up and told him he'd get more for it on retrobike - i had to stump up extra cash to take it away

tell me.

one was a similar story - called agreed to go get it, someone else had called and been tld it was sold and got "tipped" it was worth more (and didn't have the cash) other time it was a nice KHS that some guy had collected - i called the seller back and he said he wished hed not bothered as he had to box it up and wait in for the courier etc .

it would appear he's sold it to someone else last night after i said i would be around to pick it up this afternoon.

I bet he hasn't sold it. I'd put money on it that he's found out from somebody that it's worth more - more often than not it'll be someone who contacted him to buy it, found out it had been sold and then replied to say that it was worth loads more.

I'd fully expect to see it re-listed soon at 3-4 times the price. If the seller is really clever he'll take some new photos and he'll use his mate's email address (or set a new one up) so that it doesn't appear immediately obvious that it's the same guy selling the same bike

I often wonder what it is that people think that they're achieving when they tell a seller that they'll "get more on retrobike", or wherever.

Totally counter intuitive as it only serves to push up prices, which are already ridiculously high anyway. It's old bike bits FFS.

I think some people suffer from "chucking the toys out of the pram" syndrome, and if they can't get a good deal on a bike, then they feel that nobody should be able to

It seems perfectly natural to me that if somebody phoned up about a bike and was told it had gone straight after the ad went live, they'd say 'I'm not surprised at that price'. And just as natural for the seller to say 'why, what do you think it's worth then?' I don't see anything about this to get angry about. It's what anybody would do in the same circumstances.

If the 7-speed kit was original, it was probably a 1993 bike, although it could be the rare but not so good 92 vintage of course.

More annoying really to see it being broken up and split on the forum right now. :(

See, that doesn't really bother me. If someone got a good deal on a bike and then decided to split it to make a bit of cash, good luck to them. I've done it many times before and I'll continue to do so. So long as the prices are fair and in line with others I don't see an issue but I realise that it does bother some people which is fair enough :)

I think what is annoying is that taffy agreed to buy the bike and a fellow retrobiker gazzumped him
