Pettenella Special: Olympic

Thought you'd like to see work in progress on this project.
Vanni Pettenella was the last Italian to win a gold in the cycling track event 64 Toyko Olympics following a 21 minute track stand on the banking...he still holds the record for the lingest ever track stand in the worlds of 65 minutes, where his component passed out in the heat and slid off the banking...

In retirement he set up a frame shop in Milan and this is one of his creations, very light with a lovely bright 'ting' from the top tube. Vanni died in 2010.

I received it in a bad state and have been working on mostly cosmetics. I have a Gian Robert very lightweight rear mech but need a mounting bolt ( The existing mech was lunched in transit ). Fortuneately the muck and grime had protected the brightwork beneath ( see pics )

Hope you like :)

Now THAT's a bike! Absolutely love that, and a nice story about the trackstand! What does the tubing sticker say? Look forward to some pics of the complete bike.

Hi Rich it's his own tubing sticker, he devised aero tubing for which Colnago paid a royalty

 Not bad! I used to go on the Performance Bikes forum (for motorbikes) where people shoehorned more powerful engines into underpowered bikes and modify bikes to make them faster. One day a bloke came along and built his own engine. Always felt a bit inadequate after that...

I wonder how many other stories there are of little-known craftsmen licencing things to well-known names? Tempted to have a look at Pettenellas on Italian eBay...

Pettenella Special: Olympic, new pic.

Nearly there, waiting for bar tape and cables...

I'd go for white bar tape to match the hoods - I like cotton to be honest, just my personal preference.
