just hit another snag with this build.
i was sure the bottom bracket i needed was 113 mm.
so the bottom bracket turned up today.
fitted the bottom bracket and mounted the crank.
and it turns out to be too long.
so has anyone used an xtr m900 crank on a merlin,
if so what size should i be using.
this bike is really becoming a challenge.
but need to look at the positives.

Looking at the pictures they don't look to be tightened on far enough.
113 is the alternate 50mm chainline size for M900, 107 would be the 47.5 correct setting, it'll need recessed cups at the length for them cranks (most do now I think) It might well look odd on the merlin with it curved stays though.

Did you try fitting the stem into the steerer without the 'copper' shim, if you take the top cap section out could you just use it with a star nut or say an expending 1"/carbon hope headdoctor sort of thing ?
That steerer is as thick as my rockshox ones also (mag and judy)

EDIT the green text, of course you couldn't it 'clamps' the stem in to the steerer from the inside, not the outside. With a star nut it would be free to rotate, the thin clamp at the bottom wouldn't hold it enough I wouldn't think

more nice stuff turning up.
my new brake cables. :D
all being well i'll have this running next week.

last night i set about building the bike, i thought i had all the bits i needed in a box. so i set about to fit the brakes. and it turns out i've "lost" the canti hangers & straddle cables.
i have a horrible feeling i may have thrown them out as they were in a bubble envelope and last week i hastily binned a few.
so i fitted the gear cables to take my mind off the brake situation.

i spent the last hour getting the gears right. and i thought the xtr cranks would never work, but i have been pleasantly surprised.
the gear changes are really good, and the chain line seems spot on.
and the cales & outers are exceptional.
so i just need to sort out the canti hangers then this is finished.
if anyone has any silver canti hangers like the ones i have mislaid,
please let me know. many thanks, jeff.

i stupidly took the old one apart cos it was sticky, should have just sprayed it with wd40.
i'll post up some pics when completed.

very pleased i am too.

Well done. I am loving everything except the bar. If I had a spare Ti bar I would send it to you. :)
