Shimano cassette which model?

Does any one know what markings to look for on a cassette to work out which model it is?

I bought mine believing that it was a 2009 SLX. The lockring say HG-61 and that what Evans listed it as on the bike spec.

However when I tried to sell it the buyer returned it, quite indignantly, saying that I, the Lockring and Evans were liars!!

I guess it may be OEM spec and not after market. But how do you tell?

Lockrings are easily swapped about so I wouldn't trust what that has on it other than to id the lockring itself ! Most cassettes have a model number on the carrier if an alloy type I think ?

Spot on. My XT one has the model number printed in white on the inside of the black carrier:

My one has M770 printed on it. I cant find a picture of the model number on one though. I guess other ones have it printed elsewhere. IIRC, the HG reference isnt a model reference, just a reference to a type. Happy to be corrected on that.

HG61 is the model number reference.
that being the model number for 9 speed SLX

They do not have a spider. How did the chap know it was not and SLX ?
No idea if any other marking, but the style woudl tell you normally.
