Sadly it's true even when they are working they are pretty useless. I sold both my sets for dime slx ones, they are in a different league to Hayes 9s
 
As much as i havent had problems with mine, i am considering replacing them with some (more) hope mono mini's!
Prefer the modulation.
 
indeed you can, either pushing it over a bleed nipple or a threaded hole using a plastic cone shaped football adaptor.
 
well when i had to do a juicy caliper before i took the hose from the master cylinder and that went straight into my pump schraeder end.
