There's an informal, non race pace ride most Sundays at Salcey Forest in Northamptonshire. Non technical, purpose made trails but a nice refreshing few loops round the forest each week.

11am start, couple of hours riding.

If you are coming from Northampton, come off the A45 Ring Road and head for Quinton, stay on this back road for a few miles and the Visitor Center is on your left.

First ride since March 7th

it's good to be back out there 'doing a bit' though





It was the start of a VERY hot day for the UK so we started the ride at 10am and did 17.674 miles of hot dusty trails. GT-Steve tore a valve off his front tube about 5 minutes out but after he switched tubes we had no more 'mechanicals'

I did a lap of the woods on his Alpinestars Cro-Mega and I must say it rides brilliantly, much better than what I was riding...

I'll happily do a permanent swapsie with you, if you like, just give the nod and a little twist of the arm, and the deal's done.....

Yeah it was a good ride (bar the innertube trouble) and glad we got out there early as the heat later in the day would've killed me....

Joined Neilll & GT-Steve for a bimble round Salcey today. Hot, dry, dusty trails. Good to get some miles in after the past months slackness.

Nice to meet you today, the weather was awesome, as was the off-piste action too

Hopefully I'll have a bit more life in the legs next time.

BTW - just to amend Neilll's 1st thread we meet in a carpark round the corner from the main entrance as it's totally gratis..

Are these rides still going. I live about 1/2 mile from Salcey Forest and would be up for a few laps done time. Have to use my modern bikes for a spell, but should have the Alpinestars ready soon.

not sure, slightly falls outside core east mids area really.

That's the thing, under 1 mile from the Bucks border so barely qualifies as east Mids at all.

Northamptonshire still counts as east midland on most maps...

We're not southern counties, and we're not west mids either.


So can we have a new section dedicated to 'no-man's-land' please...


In answer (albeit late) to chopper's question - I still get over there from time-to-time, but it's not a regular ride at the moment.

Just done some quick calculations

your 46 miles from me so average 50-70 miles from our rides

your 85 miles from Ed (Orange71) and 101 from Sherwood pines (east mids local rides i believe?)

But we dont want you!!

and I don't want you either...



Please please please can I have my own 'no man's land' section where I can talk to myself about all the local rides I'm not doing, but would love to be doing...
