British Eagle 8 piece Pro-Carbon 1988ish

Dug my old British Eagle out from under the stairs after 10+ years using it to commute to work. So thought I’d share the images with everyone on here. It’s a little dusty but still look decent and the glue still holding the carbon to the alloy joints. I’ve done a lot of miles on this bike in my younger years and only had it changed outside for 5 mins while I was to the bank. Climbed the Campsies near Glasgow with her so she’s been round the block a bit.

So far replaced the Time cleats for some Shimano cleats+shoes, and some new wider tyres as the ones on them are cracked.

Looks very nice and interesting as even the top layer of carbon looks similar to a bike i just bought here: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=201378

Mine was 'made in Belgium' but uses the same lugs as the Alan Record Carbonio but with different weave tubes on at least the surface. A.R.C seems to use bi-directional weave on its outer layer where the Donnay and yours from the pics i can see use uni.

Very nice bike hope you enjoy riding it as much as i have with mine recently.

Now, get polishing those lugs...and now you mention lugs, the biggest difference between Alan and these frames are the rear dropouts.

I think these actually look much nicer than the Alans.

British Eagle Carbon

Barry Hoban would know where these frames were built as he ran British Eagle in the 80's ..

Been out 2 return trips from work 7 miles each way. My shoulders was killing me on day one but legs was fine. Tho I did get over taken by a work colleague in his cross over lol. 10mph avg speed then bought new cleats and new shoes and got 11.5mph on way home. long way to get back to my peak fitness about 22 years ago.

Interesting that there was other makes with same/similar components. My frame was made to measure think it was ether a 18.5 or a 19.5 inside leg measurement (sorry it was 24 years ago when i got it) So is Barry Hoban on this site? be interesting to find out how many of them where made by British Eagle back then?

Fingers cross the Diamond Jubilee day will be sunny, as I'm thinking of giving the dirty girl a good scrubbing tomorrow.

They were made at the (British) Eagle Cycle Works', Mochdre, Newtown, Powys - not far from where I live.

Barry still lives just outside Newtown.

Wow thanks for the article link lastpubrunner, its amazing to read about his cycling career. Which makes me proud to own one of his bike frames!

I did manage to give the bike a good clean with boiling soapy water and 2 hours of hard scrubbing. The amount of muck i washed off was amazing don't think I've cleaned the bike in the 24 years I've owned it.

They say it's going to rain tomorrow but I think I'll see how she handles in the wet i'll be taking it easy been off in the wet once @25mph... wasn't good.

Way2many/DA-EVO do you guys know how many members have this style of frames?

Oh also weighed the bike with some luggage scales and shes around 18.6 lb (8.4kg)
