Leather 'hairnet' helmet

I like them. This one i would wear. Are they still legal for racing in?

They don't protect your head much when you have a tarmac incident.

Ask me how I know that!

NO!

As much use in a crash as a chocolate fire guard.

So for all the years we saw Pro's wearing them they were actually no good in the event of a crash ?

Where they just for looks then ?

I hate modern helmets and was thinking of buying a 'oldie' Cinelli banana job again ! I wore one in the 80's and i thought i looked like a pro and rode like one

First hand evidence here! In comparison to even a cheap modern helmet they were not a lot of good. However, BITD, there wasn't any alternative.

I think that most of the time it was only because riders had to wear them due to rules and regulations that they did.

I agree with the comments above.
Never tested mine to destruction though!

I suppose if we had never seen anything better, which we hadn't, then it was better than nothing.

Dean.
