Saracen Kili Comp 853

Cheers Gary. Had a lot to live up to as it looked smart as when it was yours, but I'm really happy with how it's turned out. There are a couple of areas that may have some attention (and money) lavished on them once I see how we roll together. And the stem may well be one of them.

Re: 1997 853 Saracen Kili Comp (finished pics pg2)

So a few bits have changed on this since I last posted and as I have been tinkering with it for Baltic Bawbags at the weekend thought it was a good chance to update the thread.

First up the stem was changed as the other one was letting the side down a bit. Also got some XT M739 brake levers to complete the groupset. First bike I've ever had a full XT groupset on (excepting the hubs).

So the cockpit now looks like this.

The pedals were another let down so DMR V8s replaced with DMR V8s but in a better colour match and not quite so beaten up.

And the wheels have been changed for black Mavic rims and Hope hubs front and rear and a NOS XT cassette.

I have a red Hope front hub waiting to be built but hope to build it into something to match my future plans. ;)

So here is how she looks now.

Re: 1997 853 Saracen Kili Comp (finished pics pg2)

These are stunning and this is no exception, although personally, I would go for some short travel forks or Rigids, it looks a bit "set back" IMHO Great work though.

Re: 1997 853 Saracen Kili Comp (finished pics pg2)

Not enough bikes 'round these parts rocking M739, my favourite groupo by miles

The frame does look overwhelmed by the forks, I've got a pair of exactly the same Bombers and they are VERY heavy too. But as said previously, nice rigid forks cost a packet... Would knock a kilo off the weight though ;)

Re: 1997 853 Saracen Kili Comp (finished pics pg2)

Thanks guys. You are right about the forks. They are a shade too long, but the issue is in hand. ;)

In fact, I think there might be some different pics as soon as tomorrow.

Re: 1997 853 Saracen Kili Comp (finished pics pg2)

So I said the issue was in hand, so here is the new incarnation. Saracen Kili Comp 69er.

A Kona 700C P2 does the fork duties, a surly/salsa 29er wheel and the biggest tyre that would fit. A Schwalbe Smart Sam 29x1.75.

Not much clearance though.
