I drive the same 28mile journey to work twice daily. Usually I cruise at about 80(ish) which registers at about 3300rpm.

Now recently, same conditions, tire pressure etc cruising about the same speed is more like 3000rpm?

Just curious that’s all – any ideas?

Could be issues with your clutch (/gearbox if auto), tyre size if you've recently fitted new ones, or your revcounter itself... or maybe you've found a new top gear?!

TBH it's most likely that you're imagining it though! :)

Clutch/gearbox issues would be obvious in other ways, but there aren't many things between the engine & the wheels which can affect the relationship between how fast they turn! It's like saying (on your bike) that you've found you don't have to pedal as fast to go the same speed in the same gear...

My personal experience would say its most likely the rev counter.

I've owner a few cars with ordinary electrics and things like battery charge and dodgy alternators can easily drop 500 revs off the actual reading.

Tell tale signs are a drop in revs if the lights are turned on etc.
