silly question re forks, are they wheel size specific

I know it sounds daft and I think I know the answer, but are forks, wheel size specific or can they be converted to run bigger wheels. Basically can I convert the fork on a boardman which is a 26er to run 29 in wheels?

They are specific for brake bosses. However you could run a road wheel in an MTB fork. Obviously you'd need disc brakes... ;)

If you have a very tall fork (say 420 a/c) then a 700c MTB wheel might fit.
However, remember that you are also effectively altering the trail of the steering by putting in a bigger wheel, so handling will change.

Suspension forks are a lot less tolerant due to the bridge - it's only rigids where you stand a chance to fit a bigger wheel. I should have made that clear in my post.
