Fair enough. I suppose that's the joy of steel. Quick tweak and good as new. Lucky it wasn't carbon.
A lesson to us all, though: remember to put the inner cables in the cable housing before test riding.
 
No, really. I used a steel fork from the kitchen drawer as a makeshift tyre (tire, if you prefer) lever once, and it bent. Quick bend back, and it has been fine ever since. I've used it to eat my dinner loads of times since, and it really is as good as new. I don't think anyone even noticed.

But it was Sheffield steel, of course. Not sure where Reynolds sourced theirs from in the 80s.
