Well I trailled up to Co Durham today to pick up my new wheels , 95 Orange E3, it's in a fairly sorry state with about 95% lacquer missing, a road crankset and front mech, a road cassette on what looks like a road hub (the wheels offset to one side), but nothing appears to be siezed and even has a nice white selle royal saddle.
Sooo any suggestions on where to get the frame re polished and lacquered ?
The next big quandry is do I fit the RC36's I have or keep with the orange rigid forks (they need polish n lacquer too!).
The important thing is the frame appears to have no dents or cracks.

hi matthew.

there are a few 'how to re-polish' threads on here so you have that covered.

i reckon a simple high polish will be fine as that is a finish all on it's own. some laquers won't take to bare alu and will peel and pit quickly.

E3 eh??? nice one! get some pics up. there are some subtle differences from '95-97 so let's see. a 1" headtube no doubt so keep the rigid forks. they are fairly rare.

Very nice, i am actually a little jealous, what a great canvas to start your build.

As for the forks option, I have two Orange C16R's both came with original rigid forks. I had read alot about the pairing of Pace & Orange so decided to try it out with a set of Pace RC38' Air Force on my 1996 C16R. Firstly i was amazed at how they both felt when mated together. The ride and handling was great with rigid but with the Pace fitted it was fantastic (It was properly put through its paces at the Retrobike Thetford Series a few weeks back). It was on this strength that i sourced some RC35's for my 1994 C16R. I can now confim that Pace & Orange go together like Gin & Tonic, Bangers & Mash, Fish N Chips, and many more English Double Acts. Incidentally, both are 1" steerers, so should i sell Frames on in the future the orignal forks will go back in and my Pace onto the next ride :) Simples......

But be warned if you didnt know already, PACE are good but like anything they need to be looked after, servicing, etc. But in my honest opinion i am more than happy with that if it keeps my PACE forks running as well as they do with my Oranges.

Yes but that's low on the list at the moment, Need a headset 1st , would still like to use the RC36's as it's easier on my joints, got to decide whether to strip cranks n wheels off the MF or get another set, if I go down the RC36 route I may fit a BB7 front brake which means getting a disc front wheel/hub, (using a BB7 means I can keep the combined lever/shifter combination on it), need a 250/260 1" steerer and shim for the RC36's though, it seems like 1" aheadsets are still available so no worries there, would also need a 1" aheadset stem , I've got an 8 speed XT rear mech so no probs there and it came with a brand new boxed 8 speed cassette (11/30 though I would prefer an 11/34). All being well you'll see me riding a retro again later this year instead of hiding my Stumpy out of shot on the rides.
