Cinelli SLX

Here's a picture of a recently restored 1990 Cinelli Supercorsa - Columbus SLX tubing. I added Pepper bars with an Ant stem with cinelli aero-levers. The 7000 aluminium forks have taken off over 750 grams and have made a huge difference to the handling. The steering is now the sharpest thing on two wheels! The rear mech and headset are Campagnolo Record, the chainset and brakes are Campagnolo Chorus (42/52 rings) with a Dura Ace front mech (always found them lighter and more reliable). 7x speed Dura Ace freewheel 13/24. The 700c Wheels were handbuilt in Manchester with Mavic MA40 rims on two mint 1965 Campagnolo Super Record 36 hole hubs with Vittoria 23mm tyres. Saddle is Cinelli Prologo/Seatpost is Cinelli Vai, Bottle cage is Cinelli Ram, Q/R Seatbolt is DT Swiss.

If anyone knows of any (Campagnolo record 60's-70's) Cinelli 'C' logo downtube levers (they were yellow and red) I would be very interested in purchasing them for this project. I know this is an unusual restore for a Supercorsa but I find that flat bars give any steel frame a whole new life, look and purpose. The bike looks good anywhere now, in any type of clothing. It remains classic, yet looks very MOD!

I have never seen black lugs like that, they are usually chrome. Was this done by you or did it come that way?

It was done by a german guy in spain when I had it re-sprayed it in 2004. He usually sprayed Harley Davidson motorbikes but took this on as a challenge. The lugs were indeed chrome but I was told required too much work as they were pitted and would have looked tarnished against the new paint. Also with wanting lighter forks (aluminium) as opposed to the two kilogramme chrome embossed cinelli standard forks, I decided the two metals would look very wrong right next to each other, hence black lugs. I have seen black lugs before on a few supercorsa's over the years. (the latest aluminium models are orange/black) too. There are quite a few similar on the roads, it's what gave me the idea. I must admit I miss the chrome lugs too now but then there's a great reason to buy another frame in better condition and start again. I still have the original chrome forks so maybe use them on a future cinelli project. Kind regards!
