Yes, the sad truth is this one is way too small for me to really ride myself. I couldn't resist the bike's provenance and it makes a great addition to the "guest bike fleet" though (that Nik is already familiar with
). There clearly weren't enough 6'5" tall MTB enthusissts with Potts/Cunningham taste in Marin in the 80's!

All done now. I’m VERY happy with how this turned out -- and especially pleased I didn’t try to do anything substantial with the paint or (lack of) decals. I think it’s a nice balance between having a bike with a real story to tell -- but that also functions perfectly with a nice mix of it’s original “fabric” and true, period-correct replacements where necessary.

Final touches were a swap out to a long-cage ARX that worked with the 32t freewheel and a used set of gold MKS BM-7 pedals.
Thanks for the help/parts from hollister, crconsulting, fatmikeynyc, Bryan D., Steve Potts, and especially Mike Varley at Black Mountain Cycles in Pt. Reyes Station.
I also look forward to sharing the freshened-up bike with its original owner... and I think he’ll get a kick out of it!
