Shimano Sant'e ?

Sithlord

Old School Grand Master
Does anyone remember this groupset on early 90's (I think ?) bikes ? I am sure it was called "Sant'e" , I remember it being sort of a white colour, I think it was in the old Ron Kitchen Cats? or maybe the Freewheel Cats not sure..

Never seen any around for sale.. ?

Was I imagining things ?

:? :?  ;) :)

Indeed there was a Sante groupset - late eighties. 105 level if I remember right.

Thats the kiddy,, WOW it still looks nice, brought a few memories back that has... cheers :D :D

Have you ever seen any around for sale ? was it a limited run ?

Si

It's actually based on Ultegra. Was aimed at people riding road bikes who weren't neccessarily interested in competing or maximum performance. Depending on how you view marketing that means it's either a) for posuers or b) sportive riders.

In Cycling Weekly March 30 1989 -

Sante Chainset inc BB - £59.95 (same as Ultegra)
Sante Hubs inc cassette - £40.00 (same as Ultegra)
Sante Brakeset - £55.00 (same as Ultegra)
Sante Gearset £60.00 (same as Ultegra)

I reckon therefore what terryhfs says is correct!

Blimey, i was only boring my wife about this groupset the other day!! I remember it looking really sweet. Wanted it at the time but could never afford it.

I think I`ve got a front caliper (only) of this stored somewhere - might make a good front brake for a fixed/single. Anyone interested?
