I'm familiar with QE park & Butser from back in the day.
Was always a good way to get very muddy and take in a few pubs on the way home.
Was thinking more of a gentle re-visit to MTB with some local trails.
My legs and lungs wouldn't be happy with me jumping straight in to what I was doing 15 years ago!

Meon Valley route
I followed this trail a couple of years ago heading South, being a disussed railway it was a doddle to ride, but busy with lots of dogs and kids, etc. It would make for a very spooky night ride though.
The start was well marked, but it sort of peters out at the Southern end near Wickham. We ended riding over Portsdown Hill to head for Porchester, nothing soft about that climb.
