OK, I'll jump in here.

Zaskars are very popular, but there seems to be a wide variation in price. There is a nice 18" example unsold at £175 in the ads, but I suspect that is because it has no frame number (dodgy past?).

A lot of people like to use the frame to reproduce the Zaskar of their dreams, so there are a few 96's with 93 or 91 sticker sets!

If I'm brutal, the set up is a little bit of a mix or parts, and that may put a few folk off, but good bare frames can fetch anywhere between £100 and £200, so you could maybe try dipping your toe in at £250 to £300. If you get swamped with replies, I was too low, and if no one calls, too high.

Do a search on the for sales ads for Zaskar, and see what has sold in the past and for how much.

Nice bike BTW, I like them and wouldn't be without mine.

Hope that helps.

Heya, guys! I have just been offered this eighties Raleigh with Suntour components and I really don't have a clue what to pay for it because I've been told that I should be the one making an offer. I am not really into Raleighs and eighties wheels are not exactly my cup o' cake, but I am amazed by the fact that's it's virtually new and this attracts me. I assume, though, that it was an entry level model back then. Any eighties specialists around? What would you pay for it?

1997 GT STS-2

I've done a bit of a trawl back, but it seems compete STS bikes are rarely sold, mainly just the frames.

So, how much is my 1997 GT STS-2 worth?

It is pretty original, and although it has Azonics riser bars on, I still have the black Kore straight bars and silver GT bar ends. I also have the original blue / white Judy forks.

It has done so few miles, that it still has the original Velociraptor tyres fitted and in useable (if a little cracked) condition.

As I recall it is an 18", but I will check that. Fits my son and I, and we are both a little over 6' 1".

I have no idea what model it is, and as it's equipped with V brakes, it could be mid 90's onwards, but it looks to be all there.

Things to check are bottom bracket and head bearings for excess movement, as these will add a tenner a piece to the bill.

Tyres: Depends on what riding you do. If it's just roads and trails, then pop into your LBS (Local Bike Shop) and pick up some Kenda or other general 1.95 or 2.1" tyres at £10 to 12 each.

As for the value of the bike, if it's all there, working and clean, £60 seems OK. You might be able to knock a few quid off, because you are going to have to spend £20 on tyres.

Hope that helps.

my bike claud cro mo

thanks for the info neilm this is my first classic bike its a big scary departure for me i dont want to

A/ pay to much
B/ get ripped off
c/ be a plum

i was thinking road tyres of off ebay or summthing, still cant believe its late 90's christ thats shocking i thought early 90's

anyone else

also what sort of riding postition would this give i think itll be low wont it ?

It may be early 90's, difficult to say. I don't remember when V brakes came in (assuming they were fitted as standard), but I have them on my Zaskar, that I built in 94.

As for what bike and how much. It depends if you're in a hurry, as there are a lot of bargain retros on gumtree, ebay and other similar sites, as well as the classifieds on this site.
