I need an external hard drive (USB 1.1). My budget is £40. Would like as much storage space as possible for that money. Size is not an issue as it'll only be sitting on my desk as a backup for my laptop.

Anybody got any recommendations? I am happy with second hand or off ebay. Spotted this one for example:

Any others you could show me on ebay?

cheers :D

Thats not a bad price for storage capacity you getting for the money spent but be aware its dodgy to buy hdd's from the bay and i would be suspect, best i seen new is from maplin they got a maxtor one touch for around 39.99 brand new if want a 250 then i would look at increasing your budget and can get a new one for £52.05 from novatech for the freecom one http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/spec ... ?FRE-29534

Doesn’t matter if usb 2 as its backwards compatible just means it will transfer data at 12mbs as oppose to 480mbs, if you want the speed increase in transfer and its for a laptop why not get a usb 2 pcmcia card and that will give you 480mbs transfer between comp and device and trust me the speed in noticable card only cost about a tenner
