Default choice build components.

default bits for me

bars/stem/post:-
easton or raceface or hope or thompson

wheels:-
mavic rims, hope hubs, shimano hubs (and royce if i can afford it for the Demon build)

brakes:-
generally hope discs, shimano for v's or canti's.

saddles are usually wtb or sdg

forks:-
rock shox or marzocchi

headset:-
king/hope or canecreek for budget stuff

shifters/mechs:-
always shimano.

chainsets:-
raceface/shimano

i stick to these brands because of quality, spares availability and proven track record, i know there are more expensive/cooler parts out there but these are tried and tested and they work. nuff said :)

I build with whatever I've got/is cheap.

Faves though:
Hope Hubs
Mavic Rims
Ergon Grips
WTB Saddles
Shimano XT V's
Shimano M424 SPD pedals
Specialized SPD shoes

Interesting how tastes differ!

Drive: Shimano hubs, SRAM Cassette, Shimano derailleurs and shifters.
SRAM chain, Sugino or Middleburn chainset with Middleburn, TA or Blackspire rings.
Brakes: Magura or Avid for V (Shimano Vs are heavier and squeaky).
Rims...yawn Mavic but I'll happily use others.
Saddle: San Marco Bontrager, Regal or Brooks.
Bars, Stem, etc: Thomson or Raceface.
Headset: Hope or Raceface.

Seems like hope is going to prevail here.

I prefer sram for shifters - prefer the faster actuation.

SRAM X0 shifters and rear mech. Work well and like the click on the shifters.
Hope brakes with Tech levers, like the shape of the lever.
RaceFace cranks, like them and their warranty.
DMR Vault Pedals, won't touch anything else now.

CK headset
Time pedals
Thomson (post, stem) Sunline (bar) and Easton (bar)
Middleburn or Raceface cranks
Hope brakes
