Bontrager Privateer Comp 1998, Now Single Speed!

Thanks Shaun, appreciate it :)

Here´s an update.
New parts are coming in now.
First out was the tensioner kit from DMR.
Notice that it is green :p

And a XTR UN-91 bottom bracket.
Decent condition and way lighter than the original that´s still in there.
Runs smooth, thanks Taffy!

And finally, a rear cog!
I wanted an easier one than 16T ´cause it kinda hilly where I´m at.
The Man, octsoc, helped me out on this one!
Thanks

So now I just have to wait a bit for the fiercesome winter we´ve got to reside a little.
Can´t wait ;)

Yeah, I know what you mean.
I´ve had this one since new, so I won´t throw away all the good stuff.

But now I have the race lite with 9-speed xtr so I thought it would be fun having an upper-end frame and making it SS.

Originally I was thinking of having it as 1X8, but taking the front mech off and replacing it with a chain device...
Too much of a hassle, and taking away the clean style I wanted.

Just an old fart trying to be hip ;)

BTW, if this turns out alright maybe I´ll even try 650B wheels.
octsoc posted some pics earlier in this thread with his bonty having ´em.

I´ve looked at 29ers but think they look a bit too much for me tbh.

Truth be told, I´m getting into mtb´s more than ever before, and that can´t be a bad thing.

/J :)

You might have a hard time getting a pair of brakes which work with 27.5 wheels. The safest options is a pair of canti, Onza or Avid type. Provided the wheels fit the frame, you'll have plenty of up-down adjustment to take pads in line with rims and no problems of cable clearance above the wheel (with side pull brakes this is a real issue).

OK, but 650b wheels are still far away. I still need it to be SS first :)

If and when it gets to be 650B I´ll use discs. I just need someone in sweden being able to braze/weld on a disctab at the rear. That would be so cool I think.

In the mean time I also have an old Alfa that needs to be tuned ;)
Why do fun hobbies have to be so costly??

Take care everyone

OK, still too cold for taking out the Alfa, so I´ve decided that I´ll start fixing the bike instead ;)
It´s still real cold here but at least the sun is shining and mostly the snow and ice has gone bye bye.

Here´s the rear wheel with the DMR SS kit.
