Flying Scot

This is my current Roadie. An early 90s Dave Yates built Flying Scot. Ok, so it doesn't have the bragging rights a Ratrays built Scot has, but it is still a very nice steel road bike

Nice - I have one of these currently for sale although really want to keep it. Rides really nicely.

That'll be the one which was for sale in Ayrshire a few weeks back - is the paint job original d'ya think or touched up? Never seen one with the stars/moons before.

Hi. Interesting forum, And would like to say hello to all. new on here too. Nice to see this bike. were did you get it. have an interest as it was one of a pair i sold to twin brothers when i worked in dales, Late 80s to 90s. It looks just as it left the shop. Its been well looked after. Picture saved in my favorites. Thanks Geo.

That is a wonderful looking bike, bet it rides really nicely. A keeper for sure!

Thanks for the kind words.

It has has been tweaked a little since December. The wheels were handed into Willie Bain to be trued and the spoke tensions corrected. New tyres and tubes, and a wee clean.

Indeed it was the one for sale in Ayrshire.

There is nothing to indicate other than it being original paint, but i could be wrong.

It is in incredible condition. As far as i know it was owned previously by a chap from eaglesham before its last owner.

I am dying to use the thing in anger, but the weather has been terrible and i want to keep it as good as it is currently.

hi. glad to see you back. not been on here for a few weeks myself. the club we were all in at the time was vc astar. south side of glasgow club at the time, think its now based in east kilbride, easier for alister to go down hill now i think. the scot was possibly bought by one of the club members as both the boys were in the club. as you say the bike is in remarkable condition for it age. but still nice to see it. glad that you are taking good care of it. enjoy. geo.

I love finding out little bits of history about bikes. I was stopped by 12 to 15 folk on Sunday at the Monte Carlo rally start in Clydebank all wanting to talk bikes when they saw the Flying Scot. An older gent from the east coast was telling me of his collection of Scots, sounds like he owns a real treasure trove, including a pre war Scot.
