What are those cantis brakes?

I seem to recall those OEM versions felt crap on the Kona's in the shop that year.
For me that was at a time when the bubble was about to burst for mountain biking, market pressure was actual downgrading the quality in favour of cheap aesthetic biased parts.

They were made of the softest alloy known to man, all the spanner flats deformed, the levers bent, the blades became too loose with very little use, the stainless steel pad holders couldn't stop slipping on the canti....

Original Equipment Manufacture.

In other words, parts fitted but not manufactured by the maker, usually associated with air or oil filters, headlamps, windscreens etc on cars / vans / lorries etc.

OEM parts are different from say Shimano parts or maybe tyres, as you can buy the same things from a shop.
