I have a 20-year-old Swiss-built frame made from Columbus Thron tubing that I'm about to build up into a spring time dream bike. It's a ballpark 2kg for the frame only - about the same as Reynolds 531.

Where does Thron sit in the Columbus hierarchy? When was it first available?

I think Thron is 2nd half of the 90s. It uses Cyclex steel like earlier SL or SLX, but it is oversized among other things. Above it sat tubing out more advanced Nivachrom steel, but Thron is great stuff however.

I had a Duell in Thron. Very nice, light frame it was. I also had a Colnago built with the same tubing. Much heavier. Of course tubing is only part of the equation.

My Olagnero is Thron, very nice indeed, not a springy as SL but a comfortable and stable ride. A bit like 531 but lighter I think.

Details of Thron tubing from a Columbus brochure probably mid 90's. sits above Gara and Aelle but below Brain, Cyber, SLX, Neuron, Max, Genius. Average weight compared to others.

I think Thron replaced the Cromor tubeset sometime in the early 90's. Right?

My Thron frame is either from the year 1991 or 1994.
