It did end up in the wheel between the spokes, Slid to a halt then noticed it was jammed solid not damage to the wheel or spokes though

Chains and jocky wheels foul up with crap at this time of year or fur up with corrosion which can result in jamming in the mech cage which under load is dragged around the hanger which in turn can cause what happened to you.
Its a right bugger but if you spot it early enough a clean and lube can help. Alloy hangers though aint as good as steel, too brittle, but thats progress :roll:
