I love this headset and I have got some in many of my bikes. They are very strong.
But if you had a shimano before, there's no way for the mavic, or other headset, except changing the fork. The shimano headsets were the lowercups on the market. The difference between mavic and shimano is around 1cm (or the steerer)
I have measured the difference between 2 of my cannondale. They got the same headtube, but one is mavic headset, the other is a shimano deore XT.
Mavic+headtube = 13cm
Shimano+headtube = 12cm
ritchey logic+headtube = 12,5cm
