1998 Bontrager Privateer Rebuild :: DONE

Rode it!

I like the front end high, works well for my proportions. Feels like a toy now :) No weight to it whatsoever after ditching the maguras and the bombers. Not done any serious climbing today but I suspect it will be like getting onto a ski-lift.

It's still relatively clean too, although no danger of it being a garage queen as there's no room left in the garage

HOLY CRAP. THE SUN IS SHINING!

Wow, that looks great

What's the weight?

Mines now got disks front and rear, Reba forks and 1.8 tyres and is coming in just over 25lbs - yours must be way lighter

Loving it :D

nice bike you have there, my only comment is the brake levers.
if it were mine they would have to be matching, which means it would probably have v brakes front & rear, but i really like the red brakes & lever.

Re: I have a 1999 Privateer Rasta

Hello Everyone,

I live in Spain but I have 1999 Privateer Rasta bike at my son's in Seattle. Currently, it is all stock with XT components and the Rock Shox Judy 80 mm threadless fork. I am thinking about changing the super long stem to an 80mm Ritchey trail with a 6-degree rise and a wider handlebar (more modern). Also, I don't know if for this summer I want to change the fork to something AIR sprung with a disc in front or change the drivetrain to a SRAM 1X. What would you recommend? I only ride this bike one month each year when I go visit my son, so I would rather keep it rather than buying a new bike. Besides, I think the rasta paint looks cool and it has been a good friend over the years. Also, I do plan on riding on some flowing single track around the Seattle area if that helps in what you would recommend changing first. Thank you all for any advice.
