What can you tell me about PUCH road bikes?

Are they any good?
Tempted to use one as a single speed for commuting.
Was also tempted to put a set of Ruby's on one.

What do you guys think?

Cheers

Puch

French utilitarian jobs. High end werent particularly refined. Good for fixed training. Heavy. They made mopeds too. Probably still do.

I thought they were (are?) Austrian. Used to be the thing to have (racers) when I was a kid, but no doubt they were gaspipe horrors.

I don't know if there were any high end ones.

Could be a good choice as a commuter if you work in a bad area...

Yeh, Austrian thats it - sorry. I bought one in France one year because it was a lot cheaper than a similar Raleigh in the UK but it rusted really quick - it had the thinnest chrome ever. I got the wing-nut wheel releases nicked too. Not a great fan of that one - it was just an excersise in 'buying abroad'.
I think Puch made cars too. Maybe even lorries and guns and stuff. Anyway - the bikes were low rent and everything was made 'conservatively'. Puch weren't very forward looking, maybe a bit too 'commie'. Youre maybe better looking for an old 531 frame or similar.
