Retro 1950s Carlton Fixed Gear

Not surprising 42x19 is hard, I have a Corsa with 42x22 and that can be a struggle on some hills

Downhill is horrible on fixed. There's a pretty steep one on my daily commute with a bigger road at the bottom, if it wasn't for my front brake I'd be toast.

Congratulations! :)

I love riding fixed too. Just this past saturday did a longer ride of 85km with some friends. I ride 46x17.

Cheers!

Nice to hear you've settled into it on your ride!

Hills are a good way to get fit when riding fixed- up hills that is! I agree with tbc on the downhills! I've had a couple scary downhill moments- when it takes you for a ride... good job I've got a front brake too.

"Twiddling".......now there's a word I havn't heard for a good many years :D

I think Cipo needs a slightly lower gear for the true retro fixed experience :)

Not to self to buy his SR Laprade seatpost..

you wont get up many hills in north wales on 42 x 19 unless you are called Alberto 'el pistorello' Contador
Fixed gear totally un-suitable for around here unless you have a double fixed hub and keep changing your rear wheel over..
