I'm thinking about changing my ICE from CDR/MP3 to something a little sexier...I've seen one of these:

and one of these:

Anybody here use these (or similar) and can recommend/dis ??

Being able to hook up to large USB flash storage (4gb Memory Stick) and also an external USB HDD is what I'm looking for and no, I don't own an iPOD (and don't want to either...)

Alpine have confirmed the iDA-X001 does work with a 'normal' USB drive but I'm not sure about HDD...

I've got the alpine hooked up to an Ipod. Brilliant bit of kit, good sound too. I haven't tried hooking it up to anything else though. Why not an Ipod? They simply work ;)

Thanks for the feedback :)

I hate all that iTunes shit, I like to drag and drop and delete whatever I like without having to dock the damn thing and use some horrid piece of software, also, I own a tiny portable 60gb hard drive and plenty of memory sticks.

I'm thinking more towards the JVC now, mainly cos the Alpine has no CD drive....also it will play DVD's & DiVx either thru the front screen or sent to a remote screen elsewhere :)

Having used the jvc i personally am not a fan. I find the screen to small to be of any use. As i said it is a personal opinion, but if you want a DVD player then go for a proper DVD player eg.

Otherwise go for something like the alpina that is focused towards audio quality or

Used to have the one above and loved the quality from it.

Thanks again for the feedback.....some nice recommendations, but if I spend £1400 on car ICE then that's a lot of bike parts I could get

£300-£400 is ok and the two units I mentioned cope with the external hard disk/memory stick thing nicely where as the options you mentioned I think need further cash spending on 'USB kits'....I will keep looking around for a bit though :)

I'd recommend a nice Becker Mexico paired up with a smooth PYE 8 track player- Herb Alpert never sounded so good!

You kids and your fancy radiogrammes  I hear you, booming around town at all hours, IMHO a fancy stereo is compensation for a poor motor car! ;)
