Re: The one and only "HOW MUCH IS MY xyz WORTH" th

Hi guys,

Thinking of selling my 20" 1991 GT Avalanche to raise some funds for new projects, but I'm not sure of what to ask for it.

The frame is in great condition, and it has a nearly complete M900 groupset (except for a XT front hub and tange head set, iirc), which is also in great, almost mint condition.

Thanks!

Summer of 1995, having a shit time at school, just had a Orange C16R, the local woods, and a rather fun pen pal at MBUK called Joe Burt, who I used to write to, alas he never wrote back. He eventually shut me up with a hand painted portrait of Mint, on his trusty anodised RC200. I didn't write any more letters to Joe, I felt i had reached the peak. Below is a rough scan. Its got more sentimental value than monetary but thought i'd see if anyone had any interest.

Giant XTC Team with Skareb Supers, XTR etc

Opinions sought on what I should list this bike for, please PM me, thanks.

Giant XTC Team 16", black frame with the yellow team stickers on the top tube
Manitou Skareb Supers
new and unused Raceface Deus XC crankset
XT shifters, front mech, brake levers
XTR rear mech, hubs
Avid titanium v brakes with new pads
Cane creek headset with cane creek spacers
Mavic X517 rims, DT Competition spokes
Panaracer XC 2.1 folding tyres with new Giant inner tubes
XTR skewers
Giant seatclamp
Flite SLR titanium saddle
Thomson Elite setback 27.2 silver post
FSA XC 120 titanium stem
EA70 flatbars
Ritchey grips, new
KMC X9 chain new
Transfil black snake cables, new

The bike was built from the ground up with the intention of ragging it round some races, but in the end has only seen about 50 hours of riding. Weighs under 10kg, and if wanted, would weigh just over 9, with Conti supersonic tyres and tubes, and some KCNC skewers and clamp. Very interested to hear what this would go for/how I should price this for a buy it now on Ebay, as I am in the process of annoying the wife, by building up a CAAD8 road bike, which is costing a fair whack....I have been saying I can sell the MTB to pay for it all. Fingers crossed, this is going to be true. I'll post a photo if anyone is interested.

Separately, I am also looking at selling some Middleburn Duo RS8 32/44 ISIS cranks, which I am having a problem with (they were on the Giant, and I swapped out the old ISIS ti bottom bracket, and the new one just let the cranks slide all the way up the bottom bracket, I have contacted Middleburn, but am not optimistic). What does anyone reckon they're worth?

San andreas Mountain Cycle custom built any ideas....

Hi

My dad had this bike built in the US in the early 90s
He spent around £7000-8000 on it
Due to his passing my mum has given me loads of his things to sell as she is struggling without him around etc.

Does anyone have any ideas of what its worth or would anyone like to make me an offer.
This is whats on it....

Hanebrink Z6 forks

Cane Creek Crono wheels

Pro Stop brakes with floating discs

Chris King Head Stock

Race Face seat post with Titec Berserkr seat with titanium seat rails

Race Face XY seat

Answer A TAC stem

Shimano XT Crank set

Simano XTR 8 speed gearseat

Pro Taper bars with Answer Grips

Speedplay FROG pedals

The are no marks or dents to the bike and its in great condition. Some of the transfers are peeling off at the edges but this is due to age.

It has never used this bike for any serious downhill riding and has only ever been used for casual riding completely custom made.

I took it to get serviced a few days ago and the man in the shop said that it was the best built bike he had ever seen and I should be looking at around £2500 plus for it.
I then spoke to a specialist bike shop in Leeds and told him about it he said it would be in the region of £5k?
There seems to be loads of difference in price and I literally have no idea of what to try and sell if for

Does anyone know.

thanks

TBH those prices are massively over optimistic £400 - 600 would be more likely with about £800 a posibility. a slighly lower spec Sannie failed to sell on ebay a few weeks back (400 starting bid did not help)

Yup san andreas have a following but it isn't huge. The bikes are relatively common. The specification is good but I'd have to question the original quoted purchase prices.

I believe it is up on ebay now and am sorry to say I don't think it will fetch the £1695 asking price.

The usual advice is that splitting the bike into its components and selling separately will realise more money but obviously takes a little know how and time.

As a complete bike I'd agree with the above at around £800 in parts possibly £1200 off the top of my head.

As for the specialist bike shop in Leeds, i'd love to know which one as I cant think of any I would trust to value anything of less than 2 years old and without a trek or specialized sticker on it.
