Dirt Disciple
Hi, finally got my Bonty back from my wife this summer - even though I had to buy her a new bike so she would stop using the Bonty :(. So - with Bonty back, and time to kill I decided to give it a make over (personally I blame my Ibis with all it's modern kit and long travel forks for this desire to modernise a wonderful classic)

So stripped it down and took a trip to Argos Cycles and a few weeks later, hey presto, 1 frame is returned all shiny and "new"

With the frame back the rebuild commenced - new wheels (inc block), brakes (discs), fork, headset, stem, bars, shifters, grips, cables and saddle were all fitted. In fact the only bits that made over from the "old" version were the frame, the seatpost, front and rear mech, BB and chainset!

Decals were provide by the amazing Gil (thanks for these - I think they look great :) )

So - today was it's first outing and there will be a few tweaks to be made - longer stem, shorten the forks, wider tyres etc. but it still rides like a Bonty and I love it.

Tell me what you think

PS - all the original kit that came off it is going onto my next project - a '92 Orange Aluminium O

Hi, I agree - trying to get hold of Cooks Bros but they're a bit like chickens teeth - might try Middleburn RS7's or 8's instead

I absolutely love this
So do I!
but, er, those hoses and cables... ;)

yeah - I know, a bit too generous. I know they need shortening but it was a choice - shorten the cables or go riding.

guess I'll add it to the "fine tuning" list

Fantastic, that bike reminds me of one of my favourite US programs " Wrecks to Riches " where they'd take beautiful, classic " barn finds " from the 70s and put 21st century brakes, engines and running gear in them. Superb bike mate.
