Hi.
My bike came with a sram pg950 cassette which has been on there for about the last 4-5000 miles. My gears recently started mis-behaving ....it was if the chain was jumping up (but not like the occasional tick or jumping when you have badly adjusted mech or shifters). I thought the chain maybe worn, and when I checked with a wear indicator it was past 0.75 wear. I laid it next to a spare chain I have and could see a visible difference so stuck the new spare on (sram pc971). This seems to have made the gears worse. The changes between gears seem ok for the most part, but in at least 3 different sprockets the chain seems to jump. I think my casette is worn but would like a second opinion. Does this sound right ??
I am not sure what to look out for to identify cassette wear. The very tops of the cassette teeth don't look too bad. The gaps between the teeth however don't like quite even as if one edge is a bit more worn than the other.
If I get a replacement, what should I go for ? I wouldn't mind going a rung up the ladder in terms of spec and 9-speed cassette prices are good at the moment. I was thinking about sram pg990, mainly because its sram, its light and the alloy spider will hopefully work well when I get a new Hope rear wheel at Christmas (currently have a worn Deore hub). I've heard that Hope's alloy casette body can get damaged by some cassette designs, so think the alloy spider may help. What do others think ?
