externally they are practically perfect , and once i cleaned and stripped them they were almost perfect inside too

the long bolts had gone a bit rusty , from some water which must have gotten in at sone point , but after a quick rub over they were good

manitou 1

hi slim, could you tell me how you made an allen key to fit them or where did you buy one from, ? ( to service to internals) cheers

HA HA

waiting for someone , to ask that one

here we go , wait for it ........................

easy really , took some 8 mm bar , squared one end off in the bench grinder

just the right size to fit in a 5 mm socket end

then cut the angled end off a 5 mm allen key

and hey presto , one long allen key

hell of a f........g job trying to find the end of the bolt though

cant see shit once its in , all by feel and a lot of wiggling the end of it

worked fine though

did phone a local engineering firm a while ago , to see if they could help

some of these guys know some neat tricks , anyway no one could help

but the guy i spoke to offered to make some phone calls for me

he rings me back a while later and says he can get some 5 mm hex bar

but its not hardened , the only thing is its £18.00 a metre

attempt at making a tool for manitou 1 and 2 .................

for anyone thats stuck without one .......................

measure the internal fork diameter, then fit a circular disc of that diameter around the shaft of the allen key. when u insert the allen key it will be perfectly centred due to the disc & help you locate the bolt at the bottom of the internals :)
