I gave this old Corsa a good clean and service yesterday, this old workhorse has done a fair few miles since it was brought back from a near wreck some 5 years ago. A good wipe down, polish and lubrication was all that was required. I did put some new cloth bar tape on to bring this old fella back to parade standard. With some good weather forecast this weekend I feel the urge coming on to take the old Corsa on a few miles.

Whilst I had the camera handy I took a few pictures of some details.

At some point soon Ill probably take the wheels to my local bike shop to be totally relaxed as some of the spokes are starting to look a little tired, the old guy there always tells me that Id be better off getting the whole wheel done, that said when he does true up my wheels and replace the odd spoke he always does a terrific job.

All Carltons are enjoying the l'eroica afterparty.

Looks very good for a bike that was once considered a wreck :)

Love the bike, has given me some ideas for my,raleigh/carlton restoration job
after stripping down ive found some bronze/gold paint on the top of the fork stem, does anyone have an idea of colours?
Also i see yours has 72 stamped on the top of the yolk? does this mean anything? mine has 73 stamped on it
Also there was one on ebay a while back and stated that the number on his frame denoted the year (eg a080966) (cant find ad now)
What does that make mine? o8448 is all i can see of my number

Happy cycling

The "72" refers to the angle of the headtube in degrees from the horizontal, with yours being a bit steeper at 73 degrees. Cipolinni on here had a very nice Carlton Stadium in gold with a similar looking frame to yours - if the colour matches the gold paint on yours, it might be worth dropping him a pm to ask if that was the original colour of his bike. Here's the sale thread: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=106386

And here's Spokesmann's brilliant 1970's Carlton catalogues, which might help: http://www.retrobike.co.uk/forum/viewto ... sc&start=0

Correct! the 72 refers to the 72 degree parallel frame set.
