1996 MERLIN XLM - finally completed

hi - some nice choices of kit there.

as for the brakes.
if you spin the bosses to the front and get the front mount cable hanger
you should be fine - in the Pace catalogue the bike in the photos runs red Tri-aliges (?) ....

ah........, just read your edit.

doh.

I must admit I have never owned a Merlin. I chose my name after the bird, which frequents some of the places I run and cycle, rather than after the Wizard or the bicycle.

I am, nevertheless, very impressed with your Merlins.

Changed the largest chainring to a black one - looks much better.

Black components are so cool on Merlin

Received a letter from F.E.P.D. today. Inside were longer canti studs and spacers and when installed, let allowed me to use the Tri-Align brakes as planned! :D

Ordered also vintage Tune superlight outer cables for both shift and brake cables.

Now I only need to get the wheels built...

my dream frame. what size is yours?
I'd go for the Syncros Ti post. Looks soooo good on that frame!

It's 18.75"
Have to try the Syncros post to see how it looks with all those black components...

lucky you, that's too big for me! I would swim to Finland for a frame like that
al jokes aside, is it hard to find a 95/96 Merlin?

It depends. I think it's much easier than to find to Fat Ti (at least for a reasonable price).
I got this one from eBay. The previous one I got from a RB forum member and a Merlin before that (1993 Mountain) I bought from eBay.

Craigslist is good too but a bit difficult for non-US residents.
