DISK BRAKES, CABLE PULL or HYDRAULIC, brilliant aren't they

How (And more interestingly WHO) did it all get started in the first place....

Actually it was a small web company called Google who created the standard for disc brakes. All the manufacturers simply typed "bicycle brakes" in the search bar and were led to all the standard information they needed…

Jeez Srand, can you go easy on the capitals? It makes reading your posts quite hard work!

And personally, peoples 'GRAMMAR, PUNCTUATION or SPELLING' as you write is important to me. Perhaps I'm being picky but I like to read things in English, not some variant of!

Well Ben, I'll mention that to Ms Myers OR Jones next time I see either of them!

But in all honesty, I don't think they keen cyclists.

And anyway most MTB riders shouldn't be so concerned with their (Or other peoples) GRAMMAR, PUNCTUATION or SPELLING, surely most of us can't comprehend what our fellow MTB's riders are even saying, let alone be positive that their pronunciation is correct.

Well, I for one can't comprehend these endless discourses of yours, Stephan. You obviously have too much time on your hands - get out and ride more, yessir ;)

And, of course, it's disc......

Re: DID SHIMANO convince MTB (FRAME) MAKERS & SUS FORK M

NOW I HAVE TO WONDER IF THIS WAS PLANNED A LONG TIME AGO, SINCE THE NAME OF THE STUDS SCREWED TO THE FRAME/FORK, ARE KNOWN AS "BOSSES", AND SHIMANO DON'T MAKE FRAMES AND/OR FORKS, THAT I KNOW OF, SO THEY WOULD HAVE TO SPEAK TO THE BOSSES OF FRAME/FORK MANUFACTURERS TO GET THEM INTERESTED IN THIS?
Boss is a standard engineering term, its not specific to cycles

Bosses........

Bosses. Used to flex in & out alot didn't they, especially on frames/forks made over a decade ago (more 10 years ago, aka before 2001)

Hmmm still disk brakes mounts are a "standard expectation" on entry level quality MTB's these days, and "who cares" where the hydraulic routing and cable outer end stops are, as long as frame(s)/fork(s), has them.

OK I couldn't "care less" about how brake disk mounts/routing first started, or how their positioning became standardised.

What a simple question it was, I guess Shimano don't answer speculative questions from email, especially of a decadent nature. They’ll probably say why dredge up the past, it was flipping ages ago to them, ancient history, long forgotten about, people (Our R&D, good old Phil, etc) & business has changed since then, and groupsets have evolved, etc.

HYDRAULIC DISK BRAKE OUTER ROUTING......

HYDRAULIC DISK BRAKE OUTER ROUTING......

IT'S NOT AN END, IT'S JUST TO HOLD IT IN PLACE..... (Slang translation: No HULL doesn't just sell FISH, thanks for asking)

It feels like I've seen or done this somewhere before, can't think when.
(Perhaps, a little known movie, which had a few sequels, springs to mind.... But which 1?)

Am I wondering what COLOUR zip ties to use on my hydraulic routing?

Am I wondering what SIZE zip ties to use? Am I wondering which side do I want the head of the zip tie? "Like it matters", but which side do I normally get on my bike? So when I GeT on my bike, I look down, I want to see the smooth side of the zip tie, NOT the side with the zip tie head and the excess cut short, hmm just a thought.

Am I wondering how much LENGTH to leave in a loop (If any excess), just AFTER the brake lever, AND just BEFORE the caliper?

Am I wondering what basic tools and parts I need? Perhaps some wire cutters, a couple of zip ties & maybe a diagram.
