Seeing the other EG Bates thread prompted me to get this out of the back of the shed where it's been languishing for far too long;

The wheels were originally 26x1 1/4" (Milremo hubs into Weinmann rims) but as tyres are difficult to find I decided to swap them to a very good pair of Campagnolo Record hubs into Weinmann 26x 1 3/8" rear has yet to be changed.
Lighting is original as is Williams cranks with 'easy out' cotter pins, brakes are Mafac Drivers though the rear pads don't seem to align up quite right to the rim? though the front is fine...I added the bars stem and levers, the levers are the later pattern Weinmann 'suicide' levers (where the extra blade goes into the side of the main lever and NOT over the top)but I have used these type for years and they have been fine throughout a rather hilly Derbyshire.

E G BATES

Hi Chambo
Nice to see another Bates from the same era
Frame nos are very close together
Mine has much closer clearances and would not take mudguards
The fork also seems to have less of a rake
I suppose mine was built for racing and yours for touring
Very interesting!

I would say so, I like the extra cable guides on top tube and rear stay(gear side) as the cables dont stick out like on some machines also the cables then have a smoother run.
