Hello,

Should be picking up a 1985 (or 1986) Raleigh Road Ace tomorrow evening.

Think it is 1985.

56cm Reynolds 531C frame and forks
Dura Ace rear mech (7400 8 speed)
Ultegra front mech
Dura Ace 7400 down tube levers mounted on clip on tri bars
Rolls saddle
SPD pedals (double sided cheap MTB ones)
Dura ace brake levers and calipers
Ultegra cranks
Shimano cartridge (UN51 or UN71) BB
Cinelli bars and stem
36 hole Ultegra hubs and Campag rims (don't know what ones).

Has been resprayed in 1998/1999 I think in flamboyant candy red (silver base coat and candy red lacquer). Needs 531C stickers though......

Will post up pics when I get it.

Sound tasty???

I have one and they are a superb riding frame. I thought they all came 600AX.

You'll enjoy and I look forward to the pictures.

It was originally 600, but the gear is from a later bike, probably early 1990s.

The frame was spread to 130mm to take 8 speed too.

Picked it up tonight:

Hope you like it!

Frame no is WA6000651

Anybody know what year this is?

1985 or 1986?

Are these handbuilt frames?

Bit of a story behind this bike.

I bought it in 1998 when I was at Uni, and it was all the original paint and 600AX running gear.

I bought another bike which had better running gear (most of this stuff) on it, so I got it sprayed and swapped the gear over.

I sold it in 2000, and bought it back today!!! (I knew the seller from work, it was too big for him, so he hardly used it).

If I remember correctly:
W = Worksop (when the Worksop factory closed, production was moved to Nottingham but they carried on using W).
A = first two weeks of the year (so January)
6 = 1986. Only one digit for the year so it repeats every 10 years
the rest is just a sequential build number

I don't know. My frame is WA8000159. It has a sticker saying Handbuilt lightweight frame. Maybe yours did before you got it painted. I don't know how you would tell.

A good clean and it'll be nice.

BTW, if you decide you don't want the bracket supporting the gear levers on the tri-bars - I'm looking for one for 'Profile' bars (which yours are?).
