1994 TREK 930 SHX - PAINTED WITH DECALS ON PAGE 3!!

Hey Man,

If you've had that since new it would definitely be cool to restore it with higher end components! powder coating is awesome but I am not sure if you could get the orginal fade etc.

Ill ask my graphic guy what he would charge for another set (white / silver in lieu of Silver / black)..there would be no front fork decal and you have to carefully remove and reuse the headbadge with a heat gun.

The paint job is expensive to replicate properly. Trek used solvent based paint with lead...difficult to find nowadays, and there is a silver base coat with candy on top.

But if you've had the bike forever who cares what it costs!

Anyway, I just went to the painter to carefully mark the position of the decals and match the colour...it should be dead on..I am sure I can get the decals on the frame +/- 0.5mm from where they are now... We are going to: media blast, etch, prime, fill, sand, prime, base, candy and clear the bike, let it harden, then install the decals, then reclear a few times..this way if we mess the decals up, we can pull them off without risking pulling the paint off!..

Hey Man,

If you've had the bike since 93 it deserves those parts! sure, it is a heavy steel frame that you could buy on ebay for $50, (mine too) but it isnt about that..its about treating your old girl better that she "is worth" just cuz...

If you plan on hanging it on your wall, id stick with vintage stuff, because in 5, 10, 20 years it will make more sense than 2011 stuff..plus its cheaper and the treasure hunt is fun. If you plan on riding the hell out of it, then your parts make sense (just check that everything will fit first)

Anyway, you should start your own thread to document the build!

Mike

POINT OF NO RETURN..Im not worried..much.

Frame was totally blasted, washed and primed..next up silver base and colour!

that going to be sweet... I've got a Trek system front hub in very good condition incl. qr if you're interested? And some matrix swami (also Trek) rims in very good condition.

Very nice, subscribing in the hopes that we will see that finished paint adorning the frame soon.

Thanks Nick, Rio..no thanks on the hub and rim..got that sorted already! I am having the decals tweaked andreprinted as they had a few imperfections..but nothing serious.

the officially FINAL piece just arrived in the mail...NOS HG90 chain..

ok, im officially confused. I noticed the cransket i have ( a 1996) says "IG chain only. I have a narrow HG chain...

On Mombat, it says I have the right one!..in 1996 you have an IG crank with an HG 90 chain..i am pretty sure this is a misprint..should be IG 90..argh!..

http://mombat.org/Shimano.htm

will be painted very very soon..

well not so soon...

the decals were not to my satisfaction, and the more i looked at them the more little issues there were. It literally took months to get them right...but now they are finally done, and 100% perfect!!

We will paint this week..
