1999 Psycle Werks Wild Hare

So........today was the day. Set aside to put her together. In the sun. All the parts are here. Let's go........or so I thought.

After banging the headset cups out of my Rockhopper and into the Hare and taking chainset off the Spesh and such I go to put the derailleur hanger on the Hare to put the back wheel on..........buuuuuut...............the thread in the frame is f***ed.

Game over. No Hare. I am livid. ! !

I have had new pivot bolts machined. I have searched out bushing replacements and got them in. I have bought different length shocks and springs to experiment with geometry........now THIS!!! Will I ever bloody ride this thing or what????

Just mailed the friendly man who made me new bolts, to see if he could re-thread the f***ed M5 thread in hanger and chainstay into a healthy M6 and to what cost. Has anyone any idea what type of shop I would ask to do this locally? I really want to ride this bike soon, but am getting sick and tired of throwing money I have not really got at it and still it won't come together......

Any tips very appreciated.

if it's just a buggered thread then a local engineering firm should be able to tap it out bigger (if safe) or helicoil it for not much cash.

last time i had some threads helicoiled cost me about 15 - 20 quid, problem was finding a friendly local chap to do it.

thinking about it, my one didnt have a replacable hanger like yours (mine was older) so get some close up pics uploaded so we can see it and we might be able to suggest a workable bodge...

Haven't got uploadable picture source at the minute, but I think I might have a bodge on the go......might juuuuust fit a nut on the inside, if it's a thin one (normal size would hit the cassette), so I'm walking off to the local nut and bolt specialist shop to see if a slightly longer M5 and a thin nut on the other end might do the do.......reports in a bit. Mission on! I WILL SEE THIS HARE ROLL!

you might find there is more room for a small nut on the outside? depends it it will foul the rear mech or not...

If you decide to open the whole out to allow for an M6 bolt i can let you have an M6 tap
Only other thing you will require is a 5mm drill, which i can also let you have

Thanks chaps, but I found out I have no problem after all.....

Well, when bodging the wheel on to have a look how much room I had on the inside for a fastening nut I realised by putting the qr fastenings on, they cover the hanger and press him into his slot, so he cannot move for toffee anyway, even if not screwed into the frame........so I put her together and she rolls....

Just two more things for now, I need to find some mahusive thread break bosses to put in the back frame....no back break until I find some.....and swap the bushes in the shock, as they have play. I am holding them in my hand, but do not have the tool and don't fancy murdering them with hammer and screwdriver.....LBS was too busy to do it on the spot.....I might still have a go in a minute.....

And at 600lbs spring and the 3.5" setting the thing is superplush.....have a 500 spring as well, but don't think I'll be using that. Might need a 700 instead for firm....

Took a couple of snaps for the lads but only with phone and can't upload til tonight...incoming though.....she look sweet!! And the new wheels and shorter shock still to come......

Now whether to rub off the "Psycle Werks" on the downtube or not.......it's sort of cool, but not too much of it left so stealth with just the head tube logo might be the way.....

LOL......well....I was sort of thinking to postpone the discs until the next fork purchase and then go BB7's. If on this frame then with the Toronto Cycles adapter on the back.

The thing feels a bit awkward at the moment actually...after a short cycle in the sun with front break only.

Got 600lbs spring on tight and in the 3.5" hole (bottom) running a Reba at a newly streched 115mm. Seems like the 115mm is too much. Choppers it out, and the whole thing feels too high (although 4.5" would be even higher I guess...).

Can't wait for the 150mm Noleen shock. It has a 750lbs spring. That, making it lower and stiffer, plus maybe taking the Reba back down to 100mm will make it the shizzle though me thinks......
