A bit of an update...I finally got the rear tire! NOS Panaracer MAgic XC 2.1 folding Rear.

I was able to track down the original seatpost quick release! I put it on another friends bike 15 years ago and he still had it!..So I just traded it for another one. It is still in nice shape!

I took the frame to a custom painter that I have known for years. He used to do custom van murals in the 70s. We decided that 90% of the paint was in good shape, and only the clear coat was messed up. So we removed the headbadge carefully with a heatgun, and lightly sanded the frame with 1500 grit to be re-cleared. The seattube and chainstay will be primed and airbrushed in. I have seen this guys work before and have utmost confidence it will be done right. The best part of this is that all original decals will be maintained!

Change of plans..

We are now totally stripping the frame and repainting. This means all new decals. I had a graphic designer replicate all of them. He just showed me his proofs and they are impressive. We printed them in green on acetate so that I could put them up to the frame and see how close they are. They are 99.9% dead-on. I made a few notes for the final adjustments.

After painting these will be printed on clear vinyl with cut lines matching the original. Then the entire frame will be cleared.

The paint will be several stages to acheive the orginal look

stay tuned..

That's a real labour of love there, great job!
Graphics look great!
Can't wait to see the frame resprayed etc.

This is an absolutely excellent rebuild/restoration. I love it.
Its simlar to what I'm doing with my Tequesta - not catalogue or period correct but the exact spec I had when I rode it in 1992. I am at a bit of a disadvantage as I only have a couple of pics and vague memories but it looks like you can be a bit more exact.
I can tell, just like my GT, that it will be very special to you. Although maybe never worth mega bucks like some of the boutique stuff you see on here, the effort will be worth it - although some might not understand!! :D

I wish my paint job was as easy to replicate. :( :?

Thanks Guys,

Yes It is going to be very special..and exact. I even tracked down:

-The correct Seatpost (A guy on craigslist was selling the frame and seatpost..I offered to buy just the seatpost..will be polished of course!)
-The same grips I had (Ritchey True Grips)
-The actual original seatpost QR from a buddies bike I fixed up 15 years ago!

For the record the decals wont be green!

Mike

Not sure if it is an issue or not but that cassette is the later IG one rather than the HG that would have probably been on your bike. TBH I have no idea if that will be an issue, would suggest at least you get matching IG90 chain rather than HG90 but not sure if chainrings should also be matching.

Whats weird is it says HG and CS-737 on the cassette..but IG on the plastic wrap..I cannot find any difference from the old 1994 737 that was removed..what give? is it the right one? was it miss-labeled?
