What happened to all the "smoke paint" Diamond Bac

As it says, I used to drool over these BITD. In a kind of grey paint job with smoke effect, think they were Tange Prestige and clad with XT, RM20's, Tiga Farmer John's etc etc...

I remember some sprayers (dangerously) getting the same effect with the smoke from an oxy-acet welding kit...

Why do we never see 'em yet there's an abundance of other similar priced bikes knocking about by Kona, Spec etc ??
 
A few companies did them, Carrera had the Quattro Comp, that was a 531 frameset with full XT groupset on it, Araya rims aswell IIRC.

Diamond back had that paintjob on a lot of their bikes, not just the top end.

Slimjoe sold me an Ascent a while back that has that paintjob and very nice it is too :)
 
yep, I had a mate with an Ascent in full smoke finish. I still think that is a great paintjob. This was a £300 bike iirc. He traded it against a proflex 550 :roll:
