Colnago frame, please help with identification

Is anyone able to identify this frameset? I bet this is Colnago Master, but can't find this color anywhere. What year might it be?

Looks like something bottom of the line to me. No Master.

For valuations we have a seperate topic, but I would say too expensive as that is what usually is the case with Colnagos imo.

Struggling from the pics. It looks to me as though the tubing is round, not the classic Master 'Gilco' quatro-foil shape.

The paint scheme I think is AD11, with the little racer on the top tube.
I had a C40 in AD12 (Blue). The AD colours weren't illustrated in the 2004 catalogue (may have still been available, particularly through Maestro).

I would suggest the colour scheme is a late 1990's / early 2000's. The two steel models I recall from that era (other than Master derivations) were the 'Classic', which was offered until mod 2000's, a basic (can any Colnago be called basic?) steel model, with chrome lugs at the head tube, round tubes and similar seat tube/ seat stay lug.
The other, better quality, lighter weight (I think there was rider weight limit of around 180lbs, from memory), steel frame from the era was the Tecnos, made I think from 1996 to 2000.
Colnago colour schemes were supposedly hand painted and varied one from another. The Tecnos frames I've seen had 'Tecnos' on them. Given the variation, this is probably not a definitive way of determining if yours is or isn't a Tecnos.

On the balance of probability I would be inclined to think a Classic is the most likely model.

Value - what is the condition? Are you looking to sell the whole bike,or just the frame?
About four years ago I sold a nice steel Colnago and forks (early '90's) for just under £200. It was a 62cm, which may have limited the market, but still - depends whaich buyers are in the market, eager for some Italian exotica when you come to sell. And Colnago fits the Italian exotica in most peoples books!
How long have you had it, what condition is it in, do you know any more of its history?

This bike is currently for sale on local auction site. The price right now for the whole bike is around £250 and this listing ends in 1 day. I was more concerned about the frame, because if I buy it, I would probably change the groupset and wheels. The seller does not know what model is that, so I was wondering what can it be and how much would it be worth to pay for it. The condition looks great in the photos and I love that paintjob. Now I have to calculate how big bid I will make.

250 for what I see sounds like a sympathic price to me.

That frame was either a Crystal or a Classic from around 1998. My hunch is that it's a Classic.

It's no Tecnos. The Tecnos was the best steel bike Colnago made. It never got the chance to become the flagship model because steel was on its way out by the time it came along.

I bought a Tecnos in 1997, and it had equal billing as Colnago's best model. It cost the same as the Master too. I currently own 2 Masters, and 3 Tecnos bikes. I sold 2 other Tecnos frames I owned, so I've ridden both extensively. The Tecnos hass a superior ride quality, and is lighter, and gives up no stiffness that I can notice. Tecnos frames are instantly recogniseable by their uniquely shaped top tube and down tube. The tubes are extruded, like the Gilco tubes, but instead of being pressed inward into a diamond, they bulge outward with 5 balloon-like bulges, which make the tubes look like they have 5 crimps in them. The tubes are very thin and over-sized, and the use ove Nivacrom EL-OS tubesets makes the Tecnos the best bike I have ridden. Only the Eddy Merckx in TSX comes close in my experience.

Anyway, enough of my Rant. I agree that the OP's Colnago is almost certainly a Classic which was entry level for Colnago in 1997/1998. Entry level for Colnago is a big step up from other manufacturers frames though. Incedentally, I don't recall AD12 paint. Mine was the AD10 colour scheme which was the blue/white scheme first atributed to Mapei. The equivalent yellow scheme, attributed to Casino was AD14.

It is for sure no Crystal. I owned a Crystal and it had specific drop shaped tubing. It was a quite nice frame I must say.

I don't know whether to agree on that a basic Colnago is a step up from another manufacturer. Depends on what the material for reference is. I owned a C95 (1995), the model before the Classic. It used Thron tubing. If I compare it with the Duell Bologna using the same tubing, the Duell was absolutely the nicer frame.

Disappointing with another frame was that WD-40 washed away enamel from some cut outs as if it were water. I will not face that with a Koga FullPro.
