look like brake blocks, and your rim still has plenty of life left in it, set the next ones a little higher.

Those blocks have done just under 2000 miles the rims had a
grove running around the braking surface which I believe to be
a wear indicator. The grove has just about gone now and if you
look at the surface of the blocks you can see particals of alloy
embedded in them, the blocks were Avid and the rims are WTB's.

Rob I'm going to try splitting this off in to it own thread to keep it away with the skye thread - give me a mo

oohh it worked, right...

didn't realise those were alloy particles, could they be ceramic blocks used on a non ceramic rim? I've seen particle in blocks before but usually sort of grit like.

Well I went out to the corner shop (10 miles away) on the Galaxy, nearly went over the handle bars (the brakes are fixed). Ive never been impressed with the brakes from new, Avid Shorty4's with Avid blocks and Shimano Flightdeck brake/gear combo, could'nt even lock the wheels and you'd get sore hands hanging on the brakes when stopping/slowing.
Now Ive got (black) Kool Stops (I wanted red, I was sent the wrong colour) black and red I mean their close
Now I dont know if its the blocks or the way Ive set it up or both but think going from poorly set up canties to using well set up 'V's BINGO :D

Much happier now ....................

the alloy bits should'nt be there
thats whats eating yer rims dad
new blocks i'd say
